Paul Clüver Family Wines
A fourth-generation family farm established in 1896, Paul Clüver Family Wines broke new ground in the 1980s when they became the first to plant vines in the now-world-famous wine region of South Africa’s Elgin Valley.
Here in South Africa’s coolest region, influenced by high mountains on three sides, and the nearby Benguela current, they specialise in the classic Burgundian varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, coming to be described by Neal Martin as ‘the benchmark Elgin producer of wine.'
Dedicated to making the most of their region – South Africa’s youngest appellation – Paul Clüver is focussed on expressing Elgin’s unique terroir above all. Not merely its unique microclimate, but the Bokkeveld Shale soils that nurture the vines. Regenerative agriculture forms a huge part of their viticultural approach – something they apply to all areas of their farming work, also cultivating many hectares of beautiful apple orchards.
Alongside a vibrant Estate Sauvignon, their range is constructed around three tiers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – from Village, to Estate, to their super-premium Seven Flags editions: a single vineyard Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir blended from two distinct vineyards sitting side-by-side.
