The Burrier family’s association with the vineyards of southern Burgundy, which extends over a period of 5 centuries and 7 generations, has established them as one of the region’s most distinguished producers.

Today, they own 60 hectares of vineyards in Mâconnais and Beaujolais, making them one of the leading owners of vineyards in the region. The total vineyard area covered by the Joseph Burrier vineyards is comprised of several prominent estates including Domaine Joseph Burrier and the famous Château Beauregard, which was been run by the family for 7 generations since it was established in 1854.

As a producer, Joseph Burrier seeks to reveal the true expression of their terroirs with precision and purity, thanks to meticulous and sustainable work in the vineyards and a natural and low-interventionist approach. Their viticultural practices, which avoid the use of chemicals, have helped to encourage biodiversity and viticultural practices are adapted to each plot in what they call a sort of “Haute Couture” approach to viticulture and this approach follows through into the winery.

The wines

The profile of Joseph Burrier wines set the benchmark for many of the fine wines they produce. Their white wines are acknowledged for their complexity and ageing potential thanks to the extensive time they spend in barrel. Their Beaujolais wines are vinified without sulphates and this, together with short maceration periods and long periods of barrel ageing periods help to produce wines with elegance, finesse and complexity.

The excellence of Joseph Burrier’s wines is something that has been widely recognised by many of the world's leading wine writers, including Allen Meadows, Neil Martin, Tim Atkin MW, and Jasper Morris MW.
