Kings of the Hill
Maison Louis Latour’s history is entwined with that of the fabled hill of Corton, where they have made wine for centuries, and where they have been based in Château Corton Grancey since 1891.
They have built up their holdings over the years to become comfortably the biggest vineyard owners on the hill, with intimate knowledge of its plots and terroirs. Indeed when it was devastated by Phylloxera in the nineteenth century, it was Louis Latour who led the planting of Corton Charlemagne with Chardonnay vines.
Although their Corton wines are exceptional across the board, their flagship and most important and individual, is Château Corton Grancey itself. Uniquely, and by special permission, this is not a single vineyard, but is a blend of Pinot Noir from four distinct Grand Cru plots across the hill – and is therefore permitted ‘Grand Cru’ status itself. Each is vinified separately, with the blend adjusted year on year according to vintage. A celebration of their home and a Grand Cru Burgundy like no other.
