New Release Pinot Noirs

Established in 1985 by the Hill-Smith Family, Nautilus Estate is a small family-owned winery nestled in the cool and diverse valleys of Marlborough New Zealand. It is committed to crafting wines that are textural, age-worthy and food friendly, respecting and showcasing the unique Marlborough terroir. Grapes are selected from a handful of specially chosen Marlborough vineyard parcels, which contribute a vast spectrum of flavours and aromas. The resulting blend gives complexity and depth.

Recognising the winemaking complexities of the inspiring but sometimes infuriating Pinot Noir grape, Nautilus has built two separate wineries; The Nautilus Pinot Cellar, built to handle Pinot as gently as possible, and the Nautilus White Winery, dedicated to crafting cool climate varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Grüner Veltliner.

Spring is the perfect time for light bodied Pinot Noir wines with their soft tannins, so why not take time to discover our new Pinot Noir releases from Nautilus.

Pinot Noir 2019

Hand harvested from selected Pinot Noir clones 114, 115, 667 and 777. 20% whole-bunch pressed, a 10-day cold soak and wild fermentation all add to the structure and complexity before ageing for 10 months in French oak (25% new). Made from selected plots of Nautilus’ 6 vineyards – 2019 is a contender for the best ever vintage for this variety in Marlborough.

Clay Hills
Pinot Noir 2020

Nautilus Clay Hills Vineyard is located on the ridge that divides the Brancott and Omaka Valleys within the Southern Valleys sub region of Marlborough. The vineyard is divided into 6 discrete blocks with differing aspects and slopes and an elevation between 100 and 130m. Normally picked midway through the Pinot Noir harvest window this vineyard has rapidly become the cornerstone block for Nautilus Pinot Noir where the clay-based soils contribute a silken texture and fine-grained tannins.
