Family
Having run the winery single-handedly since he set up Guigal in 1946, Etienne was struck with temporary but total blindness, so his son Marcel joined the business and took over the running the estate. Marcel’s wife Bernadette joined the him in 1973 and together they expanded the business. Marcel is very much still part of the day-to-day running of the winery, having overseen an impressive 62 vintages, although their son Philippe is now the Oenologist and together with his wife Eve they represent the third generation of Guigal family winemakers. With 24 centuries of history preserved by 3 generations of winemakers with family values at their core, Guigal’s motto of “no pain, no gain” runs through the heart of the family and their passion for winemaking.
