Symington 2023 Quinta Vintage Ports

In April of this year the Symington family announced their intention to release a selection of 2023 Quinta Vintage Ports.

Thanks to a remarkable vintage in 2023 that produced well balanced wines, with vibrant colour and freshness, the Symington family have decided to produce 2023 Quinta Vintage Ports from their top six Douro estates. An en primeur release of four of these iconic Quinta Vintage Ports – Quinta do Vesúvio, Dow’s Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, Graham’s Quinta dos Malvedos, and Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim – will take place this June, while the remaining two Quintas, Warre’s Quinta da Cavadinha and Cockburn’s Quinta dos Canais, will age in their cellars for future release.

It has been six years since the Symington family last declared a classic Vintage Port, with the 2017 vintage. Given their quintas are spread across the mountainous Douro Valley, producing a classic Vintage Port requires a rare alignment of conditions across all estates. The family is always guided by what each year delivers. When quality is more localised to specific vineyard parcels, they bottle small quantities of Quinta Vintage Port – as was the case in 2023.

The Symingtons of Scottish, English and Portuguese descent have been port producers in northern Portugal since 1882. For five generations they have combined their passion for producing fine wines and ports with a deep commitment to the region’s land and people. Today, ten Symingtons work across their four port houses: Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s and Warre’s, as well as their Douro wine brands – Quinta do Vesúvio, Quinta do Ataíde, Altano, and Prats & Symington (of Chryseia fame). They also produce wine at Quinta da Fonte Souto in the Alto Alentejo, Casa de Rodas in Monção & Melgaço, and Hambledon in the UK through a joint venture.
