Prats & Symington Chryseia 2019 Release
Prats & Symington Chryseia 2019 Release
We are pleased to announce the latest release from the legendary Prats & Symington partnership which features the iconic Chryseia 2019 – a wine which revolutionised still winemaking in the Douro Valley, marrying the sophistication of Bordeaux winemaking with the heritage of the Douro.
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate – 95+pts
“This shows superb depth, sensual texture, fine structure, a long finish and much more ability to age. This is a beautiful Chryseia, and it is not done improving yet.”
In 1999 the Symington Family and Prats Family (of Chateau Cos d’Estournel) formed a partnership bringing together two of the best winemakers of their respective generations: Bruno Prats and Charles Symington. They set out with the intention of creating the best possible expression of a Douro red wine, bringing Bordeaux winemaking techniques to grapes usually destined for the production of top Vintage Port.
Chryseia has been at the forefront of the DOC Douro quality revolution and instrumental in driving forward the high quality image of the region.
It was the first Portuguese non-fortified wine in the Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 Wines and has now appeared three times in this influential list. In 2014 Chryseia 2011 was ranked at number three in the Top 100, the highest ever placing of a Douro wine.
Chryseia 2019 was produced from a rigorous selection of grapes from Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz, both owned by Prats & Symington. As in all previous editions of Chryseia, there was also the usual contribution from the Roriz neighbouring estate, Quinta da Vila Velha, privately owned by Rupert Symington 4th generation Port producer.
