Hill-Smith Family Estates achieves IWCA Gold Membership
Hill-Smith Family Estates is proud to announce that they have officially achieved Gold Member status with the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), making them the first Australian winery to meet the highest standard achievable in reducing in carbon emissions.

Since joining IWCA in 2021, Hill-Smith Family Estates have deepened their commitment to sustainability by implementing initiatives to ensure that at least 20% of their energy comes from renewable sources, and to continue this commitment to reduce their carbon footprint even further. This recognition underscores their long-term dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable wine production.
Achieving Gold Member status is a testament to the leadership of the Hill-Smith family and the commitment of their teams. Collectively, they have made significant progress in energy and water efficiency, lightweight glass packaging, and renewable energy investments. They also remain focused on building upon these ambitions as they work towards their 2030 and 2050 net zero goals.
One of the many projects they have worked on over the years includes their Oxford Landing revegetation project, initiated in 2007, which has played a key role in their sustainability efforts. Over a six-year period, they planted 215,000 indigenous plants across 400 hectares, enhancing biodiversity and contributing to carbon sequestration.
“We are delighted that Hill-Smith Family Estates has achieved Gold membership. Their success strengthens IWCA’s presence in Australia and serves as an inspiring example for wineries worldwide to accelerate decarbonisation efforts.”
Katie Jackson, President of IWCA
Hill-Smith Family Estates remains committed to driving positive change in the wine industry and beyond. They look forward to continuing their collaboration with IWCA and their industry peers to develop and implement innovative climate solutions for a more sustainable future for all.
