Chateau Musar Releases 2018 Vintage of its iconic 2018 Red
Monday 15 April sees Chateau Musar – one of the world’s great wine estates – release the 2018 vintage of its iconic Chateau Musar Red.
Seven years in the making, Chateau Musar Red is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault from vineyards near the Bekaa Valley villages of Aana and Kefraya, which are characterised by gravelly soils over limestone. Planted from the 1930’s onwards, the yields from these mature bush vines, which have an average age of 40 years old, are low – producing just 15 to 35 hectolitres per hectare.
The varietal components in Chateau Musar Red undergo lengthy fermentations at temperatures below 30°C. Six months after the harvest they are transferred into French barrels (oak from the forest of Nevers) for one year. At 6 years of age upon release, the 2018 vintage is already well developed and mature.
