Graham and Barbara arrived at Capensis with huge Chardonnay expertise, having already established themselves as some of the best makers of the variety in California.

But Capensis is about uncovering not only Chardonnay’s quality, but its extraordinary diversity – and the exponential gains in complexity and flavour that can be achieved by unlocking it all together.

So the Capensis range is a lightning rod not merely for individual parcels of Chardonnay, but for the results that can be found by utilising different clones and terroirs of the same grape.

There’s Silene, an expression of their home vineyard, Fijnbosch, together with other mountain vineyards all in the Stellenbosch region. Fijnbosch itself, which offers a hyperfocus on Graham’s favourite ‘flowers’ block of the Fijnbosch vineyards, and the winery’s flagship, Capensis, selected from five remarkable vineyards across the whole Stellenbosch region, for balance and layered complexity.

All 100% Chardonnay … but there’s so much more to it than that.
