Barone Ricasoli 2019 Vintage
Due to the growing climate changes in recent years, the 2019 vintage presents unusual characteristics. Rainfall was unusually low during the fall and the winter was generally mild with the exception of a very cold January when the temperatures dropped below 0° C with snowfall at the end of the month. During the spring, May was an unusual month, with lows below 7- 8° C and daily rainfall. This was followed by a fairly dry and hot period which began in early June, with highs often above 35° C that were interspersed with short and intense rainfall. Despite these challenges, the vintage gave birth to fruity, intense coloured, and well-balanced wines.
The vineyards of Ceniprimo
Ricasoli’s Gran Selezione CeniPrimo comes from the great valley of the River Arbia, in the southernmost part of the Ricasoli property. The soil here, which is very distinctive and complex, originates from an ancient river terrace dating back to the Pliocene-Pleistocene era. These silty deposits, with a presence of clay and a little limestone are poor in organic matter but produce concentrated wines with great structure.

Gran Selezione Colledilà
2019
‘Lots of fresh fruit here with orange-peel and crushed berry character. Some crushed stone fruit as well. Full-bodied and integrated tannins that spread across the palate and melt in nicely, making it almost seamless’.

Gran Selezione Roncicone 2019
‘The aromas and structure to this single vineyard Chianti Classico wine are something else this year. It’s medium-bodied with firm, chewy tannins that are dusty and fine-grained. Structured and sturdy with a granite-like presence’.
98 Points – James Suckling
Gran Selezione Castello Di Brolio 2019
‘A polished and reserved Castello with cherry, orange-peel and chocolate aromas and flavours. Tight and round-tannined in a subtle and curated way. The precision in this wine is impressive’.
