South Burgundy specialists
It sometimes feels, when it comes to Burgundy, that almost all of the conversation centres around the Côte d’Or, to the north. But a tasting of any Burrier wines is an immediate reminder of the breadth and quality to be found amongst the wines of the Mâconnais.
‘We have a great diversity of terroirs,’ says Baptiste Burrier, ‘so a great variety of styles. You can have a very fresh and simple and accessible wine with a very great, beautiful Macon-Villages, but you can also have a really great Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru with the same quality as the best Côte-d’Or appellations.’
With their centuries of history in the area, Burrier are proud specialists in the wines of the Mâcon, with long-developed expertise in all the styles and appellations. And in an age when the conversation around Burgundy so often drifts to the increasingly high prices, the south provides an important reminder that extraordinary quality can still go hand in hand with exceptional value in this storied region.
