Chryseia 2019

Chryseia 2019 was produced from a rigorous selection of grapes from Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz, both owned by Prats & Symington. As in all previous editions of Chryseia, there was also the usual contribution from the Roriz neighbouring estate, Quinta da Vila Velha, privately owned by Rupert Symington 4th generation Port producer.

Prats & Symington

In 1999 the Symington Family and Prats Family (of Chateau Cos d’Estournel) formed a partnership bringing together two of the best winemakers of their respective generations: Bruno Prats and Charles Symington. They set out with the intention of creating the best possible expression of a Douro red wine, bringing Bordeaux winemaking techniques to grapes usually destined for the production of top Vintage Port.

Chryseia has been at the forefront of the DOC Douro quality revolution and instrumental in driving forward the high quality image of the region.

Chryseia was the first Portuguese non-fortified wine in the Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 Wines and has now appeared three times in this influential list. In 2014 Chryseia 2011 was ranked at number three in the Top 100, the highest ever placing of a Douro wine.

‘’James Symington, Rupert’s father, was convinced that the Douro should walk on two legs, Port and DOC non fortified.”
