French Fine Wines
One of the jewels in the crown of Fells’ fine wine portfolio is France. It includes leading producers such as William Fèvre, one of the biggest landowners in Chablis; Bouchard Père & Fils, one of the oldest Burgundy wine estates with a history that spans nearly three centuries and nine generations; ‘Château de Nalys, one of the oldest estates in the appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Famille Hugel, who have produced Alsace wines from their hometown of Riquewihr since in 1639.
For this season we are showcasing a wine from each of these producers which are benchmark styles of their regions.
William Fèvre Chablis Premier Cru Vaulorent 2018
This Climat is almost an extension of the slopes where the Grands Crus grow, with only a small path separating them. Sitting directly alongside Les Preuses, the proximity to its illustrious neighbour results in powerful, mineral wines. Powerful nose, combining aromas of citrus and white-fleshed fruit and minerality, typical of the of the appellation. Rich and concentrated, the palate has remarkable freshness and length.
Bouchard Père & Fils Beaune Clos de la Mousse Premier Cru Monopole 2016
During the 19th century, the Bouchard family bought several vineyards of this delicate cru to obtain exclusivity and this Premier Cru has been the monopoly of Bouchard Pere & Fils ever since. Fruit aromas combined with light toasty notes on the nose. Both fleshy and refined, Clos de la Mousse reveals its charms with delicacy. Good ageing potential.
Château de Nalys Grand Vin Rouge 2018
Château de Nalys Grand Vin Rouge is an elegant, punchy wine with seductive aromas of fresh fruits. Thanks to the subtle balance of freshness and richness it can be enjoyed young. It has an intense nose of red and black berries, spice and a beautiful composition of silky tannins, power and elegance on the palate.
Famille Hugel Riesling Estate 2019
Made from a new selection “parcellaire” of carefully chosen plots from the family’s estate in Riquewihr and from its most prestigious crus. The unique marl soils of Riquewihr, in and around the Schoenenbourg give this wine its characteristic minerality.
