The name of Les Avaux has its origin in the lieu-dit “Vaux” designating a depression in the slope where the vines are situated. The maison Bouchard Pere & Fils, very present in the terroirs of Beaune for almost three hundred years, holds one third of this particularly steeply-sloped parcel, with its clay-limestone sub-soil. These characteristics are behind the racy elegance of this Premier Cru.
