A spotlight on Simonnet-Febvre

It’s about time we introduced you properly to our shiny new Chablis producer.

They’re called Simonnet-Febvre, they’ve been based in the heart of Chablis for over 185 years, and you can taste a swathe of their beautiful still and sparkling wines at our upcoming Portfolio Tasting on 17th February.

But before that, enjoy a proper ‘hello’ from Paul Espitalié in this short film he kindly let us shoot with him, sharing a bit of the story of the brand.

185 years of expertise

For those of you (hello!) who prefer words to pictures, Simonnet-Febvre was founded in 1840 by cooper Jean Febvre in the heart of Chablis – now one of the oldest wineries in the area.

At that time they specialised in sparkling wines, and today they continue that tradition – the last to make a Crémant de Bourgogne in Chablis itself. Their crémants are things of beauty; complex, vibrant sparkling wines that punch far above their price point.

But still wines now make up the bulk of Simonnet-Febvre’s production. With vineyards across the appellation they make classic, textbook Chablis at all tiers, from Petit-Chablis to Grand Cru, all with the elegance and minerality that typifies the region.

The Latour connection

Our fortunate introduction to Simonnet-Febvre came through our new partnership with Maison Louis Latour, who have owned Simonnet-Febvre since 2003.

It’s a very exciting step for our portfolio – being able to offer not only the breadth of Chablis, but their range of Crémant de Bourgogne as well.

And Simonnet-Febvre’s relationship with Latour goes far beyond the year the two joined together. In 1891, Latour celebrated their purchase of Château Corton with bottles of sparkling Chablis from Simonnet-Febvre.

We’re looking forward to toasting our own celebrations – and many of yours – with it for years to come.

Make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to try Simonnet-Febvre’s wines – and meet Paul himself – at the Portfolio Tasting.
