On the 14th June at Galvin at Windows, London Hilton on Park Lane, Famille Hugel launched the latest vintage of their Riesling “Schoelhammer” 2009 – The Great Dry Riesling from the Schoenenbourg.
Jean-Frédéric Hugel, Commercial Director, and his uncle and Winemaker Marc Hugel, attended the event together for a second year. Instead of a tutored tasting, we took the opportunity to demonstrate how well the wines were showing when paired with a selection of dishes with a bespoke tasting menu.
The aperitif was Gentil 2017, followed by a flight of Rieslings from the three main tiers of Famille Hugel wines: Classic 2016, Estate 2014 and Grossi Laüe 2013. We then showed a vertical of “Schoelhammer” Rieslings: 2007, 2008 and 2009, demonstrating the different characteristics of the vintages.
The family surprised the press and trade by bringing with them a 1934 Riesling Réserve Personnelle, which everyone agreed was extraordinary!
It was great to have both Jean-Frédéric and Marc here to speak about their family’s wines and demonstrate the wines’ versatility in such a superb location overlooking London.
Many thanks to those who attended and we will keep you updated on future events.
